FRUIT / Ffrwyth
Every morning, the children may buy a healthy snack for 20p or £1 for the week. The Year 6 children wash and sell the fruit and count our earnings. We use any profit to buy some special extras for the children in their lessons.
WATER BOTTLES/ Poteli Dwr
We are trying to reduce the number of bottles we throw away so are
encouraging the children to bring a water bottle to school or buy a Greenway one for £1.50, available from the school office. They may fill it at the fresh water fountain. They can keep this in class and re hydrate throughout the day.

Year 6 came up with some fantastic ideas for our new topic. Da iawn blwyddyn 6!
Year 6 have been very creative creating our wonderful classroom display!
We have been learning about the Trenches in WW1 and WW2, YEAR 6 wrote an informal letter in their hot writes, we looked at features of an informal letter and what life was like in the trenches. We wrote an informal letter as a soldier writing to their families, from the trenches. Here are some fantastic examples of work
The Ambulance service came into school to do a fantastic workshop with us, we learnt some really useful information and enjoyed exploring the ambulance.
We have been learning about rationing during WW2. We looked at some wartime recipes and made some of our own. We made cheese and potato dumplings and eggless chocolate cake. We found them to be rather delicious!
Year 10 students from Eastern High came to run some fantastic activities with us. Diolch i chi gyd!
We made our own model of an Anderson Shelter
Streetwise came to do a great workshop with year 6 this term. The aim of the Streetwise initiative is to raise awareness of road safety to ensure that children have the skills needed to travel safely to their secondary school as well as encouraging independence and active travel.

Finding Your Feet in Year 7
Tymor y Haf
May The Force Be With You
Our Summer topic is called 'May The Force Be With You' whilst we have discussed the idea of what a force is we have thought of many things we would like to learn about.
What are forces?
Can we see or feel forces?
How do they affect our daily lives?
Is force powerful?
What else can force mean?
What is a force of nature?
Is there a wild force?
How to Stop a Moving Car?
We have tested different materials to determine which would produce the most friction. We dropped the car from the top of the ramp and timed how long it took to stop.
The quicker the car stopped, the more friction the material gives.
We created graphs on Google Classroom to show the stopping distances.
Forces of Nature
For our final half term we are looking at other types of forces.
We have started to look at forces of nature and how global warming is affecting the planet. We used straws and marshmallows to create an earthquake proof building with different levels of success!
Spring Term - Tymor Y Gwanwyn
This term our context is called 'Our Heritage'
We live in a country that is full of history and tradition but what do we know about these? Over the next 10 weeks we will be learning all about Welsh history and how in the Victorian times Wales became one of the most important places in the world!
We will find out about some of the sad times and become reporters in the aftermath of the Aberfan disasters.
Using our pupil voice, we will find out lots about out little country with a huge history.
How much coal?
We looked at sources from the late 19th century and saw just how much coal was exported from Cardiff. We used this data to create a range of charts to help us answer questions.
Aberfan Disaster
We have learnt about the tragedy of Aberfan! After learning all the facts, reading and listening to eyewitnesses we created our own newspaper reports.
Safer Internet Day
We have made information PowerPoints alerting other pupils to the risks they may face online.
Autumn Term - Tymor yr Hydref
To Infinity and Beyond - I Anfeidredd a Thu Hwnt!
We have talked about the context and the class have made some fantastic ideas of what they would like to learn about. We are going to start travelling through space learning about the planets in our Solar System before crash landing back on Earth to learn about the many things which are affecting our planet and what we can do to help the future of our planet.
Distance Between Planets
As part of our pupil voice we wanted to find out the distance between the planets. We were able to find out the distance between the planets. We were then able to convert the measurements to smaller units to see for ourselves.
CPR Training
We were able to take part in a workshop to learn a very important life skill. We were able to take part in CPR training so if somebody was to have a heart attack we know how to save them.
Netball Training
As part of transition to high school we have taken part in netball sessions with Eastern High.
Year 6 Skate Club are building their skills ahead of a trip to the Knap and Llandaff Fields later in the year. Learning to skate involves a wide range of skills including balance, coordination, improvisation, mutual support and resilience.
A massive 'Well done' to Skate Club for the skills shown on our trip to the Knap in Barry - skating skills, bravery and self-belief, resilience and social skills, and helping others. Great work!
