    Summer Term

    Our topic is Summer Sensation

The children used their pupil voice to choose what they wanted to learn about.

    They asked to learn about:

    Pirates

    Sharks

    Whales

    Boats

    Sea Creatures

    Rockpools

    Floating and Sinking

    How are waves made?

Can we go to the beach?

    Spring Term

    Our topic is Animal Kingdom

We will be focusing on dinosaurs!

The children used their pupil voice to choose what they wanted to learn about dinosaurs.

    They asked:

    Do dinosaurs have teeth?

    How do dinosaurs get food?

    Where did dinosaurs live?

    How many dinosaurs are there?

    Can dinosaurs fly?

    What do dinosaurs eat?

How tall or small are dinosaurs?

    How are dinosaurs made?

    How did dinosaurs die?

    What did a meteor do?

With all our new vocabulary, the Reception Class thought it would be a great idea to share what they have learnt. We created a word mat that we displayed in class to help with our writing.

We had a great time exploring our Tiny Forest. We independently put on our wetsuits and wellies for the adventure. We explored the maze that is growing, talked about if trees were taller or shorter than us and jumped in muddy puddles! We loved acting out the story Miss Cosh read to us.

We enjoyed reading the story, ‘Harry and the Dinosaurs at the Museum’. We used our pupil voice to make ‘Missing Posters’ to help Harry find his lost dinosaurs. We put our posters up around the school and someone phoned to tell us they saw the dinosaurs in our Tiny Forest. We went to look and we found them!

    Autumn Term

The children used their pupil voice to choose what they are going to learn this term.

    We will be learning:

    To learn our letter sounds

    To write our letters

    To count to 10

    Who is in our family

    Our body parts

How to wash our hands and stay clean

How we have changed from being a baby

    Exploring senses

Homes and rooms of our homes

Friendships - How to be a kind friend

    and much more...

Here are some of the books we will be reading.

We loved reading Funny Bones! We were inspired to make our own Funny Bones skeletons. We counted the missing bones on the skeleton and gave them new ones. We found the dark dark street in Dosbarth Derbyn, but all of the houses were missing and we had lots of fun drawing them on! We drew around eachother and learnt the names of different body parts. We discovered the hidden bones in the sand and read the letter sounds on them.

We read the book My Five Senses written by Aliki. We learnt about some different instruments and used our sense of hearing to guess which instrument was being played. We used our sense of sight to find the hidden letters in the garden and say the letter sound. We became scientists to predict which food was hidden in containers just by using our sense of smell. We used our sense of touch to guess what was in the bag and described how they felt. We completed a taste test of different foods and decided if we liked or disliked them. Most of us liked the chocolate the most!

    Eisteddfod

We have had lots of fun in our new role play area this term. We have used our imaginations to become customers and hairdressers. We love dressing up in the wigs and giving each other compliments!

We have loved exploring our Fairyland Bakery this term. We have pretended to be bakers by following steps to make cookies and serving customers. We dressed up as fairytale characters and imagined we were customers shopping in the bakery.

After reading Cinderella we talked about how glass slippers might not be very safe! The children decided we should make new shoes for Cinderella. We tested lots of different materials and decided that Cinderella needs new leather shoes!

We read Snow White and spent the week learning all about apples! We love apples in Reception and decided to bake a delicious apple crumble to eat for snack. We loved making our own snack and can't wait to do it again!

    Autumn Term

This term our topic is called

    'Twinkle, Twinkle, Celebration!'

We asked the children what they would like to find out about our topic. They gave us lots of ideas about what they want to explore - stars, space, planets, rockets, astronauts, aliens, day and night.

Here are some of the books we will be reading to help us.

We have loved our rocket role play area. We have enjoyed imagining we are astronauts exploring different planets and going on space adventures!

After reading Where have you two been? we enjoyed becoming scientists and exploring Autumn items. We learnt about hedgehogs and had lots of fun making our very own! We explored our Autumn table and retold the story.

After we read Man on the Moon, we were very lucky to get a visit from the Star Dome! Inside we learnt all about space, the moon landings, astronauts and we loved being surrounded by the stars and planets.

We enjoyed our trip to the cinema to watch Paw Patrol. We had lots of fun making predictions about what would happen next, talking about the characters and their emotions and learning about gravity and how it works.
