Spring Term 2018

This term we shall be studying Earth & Space. The children will be carrying their own research on the planets and sharing the information with the Year 5 class through a presentation.

We shall be finding out about:

The stars and how they shine;

The moon and the changes in to throughout the year;

The earth and how it rotates-day and night/seasons

The sun and its affect on the earth

Natural reactions- Volcano, earthquake, Tornado & Tsunami

In Literacy, we shall be studying some books relating to our topic:

Play script with humour-Abducted by Aliens by Ian Souter

Mission To Mars research brochure

Journal/Diary-Trip to Mars

Space Newspaper report

Welsh themed books-Dragon Ring by Liz Haigh

Welsh recipes, songs & rhymes

In Maths, we shall be covering decimals, fraction and percentages, shape and symmetry as well as systematically working our way through reasoning activities.

In Welsh, we shall be talking a lot and sharing our interests as well as preparing for the Eisteddfod.

As you can see we have a lot to look forward to.

Don't forget to bring PE kit for Tuesdays and Fridays and to return all homework and reading books on Fridays.

Mon 12th-Circus comes to Greenway-circus skills & shows for children & parents

Tues 13th-Visit to 'Life' exhibition at Rumney Baptist church

Fri 16th-INSET Day

Mon 26th-WELSH WEEK-'Yr Wythnos Cymreig' Fun activities with a Welsh theme. All entries to the Eisteddfod competitions need to be in for judging, including art & 3D task from home.

Weds 28th-Workshop on cooperation and collaboration with student, Lauren Reilly

 

MARCH

Thurs 1st-Choir to perform in St John's church in town centre followed by a visit to the Mansion House to have lunch with the Lord Mayor of Cardiff.

Fri 2nd-School Eisteddfod for the children. Wear your Welsh costumes or Welsh sports kit.

Weds 7th-Eisteddfod-Performance for parents. 9.30-10.30am.

Thurs 8th-Whole-day workshop with Lauren followed by performance for Y6 parents at 2.30pm

Weds 14th-Fairtrade workshop for Y6 followed by Assembly. Fairtrade produce will be on sale.

Y6 to demonstrate their Welsh oracy skills to Welsh advisory teacher.

Thurs 29th-Easter Bonnet Parade-9.30am
