On Saturday 30th May 2020 a rocket launched from Cape Canaveral in Florida. This is where NASA launches all their rockets from. It is the first time they have sent astronauts into space for 9 years but this time it was a little different because they worked with a billionaire businessman called Elon Musk and his SpaceX company. Together they want to land on Mars in the next 20 years. The Astronauts docked at the International Space Station on Sunday 31st May and they will stay there for a few months before returning to Earth on their capsule which is called Dragon!
Use the link below to visit the NASA website to learn about what it is like to be an astronaut and to be on the International Space Station.

This will be split over the two half terms where we will we begin by looking at The Victorians and how our coutry changed over the reign of Queen Victoria. The second half term will have links to Wales as we look at how Cardiff Bay has gone from the busiest port in the world, to derelict land to a thriving tourism location.
We will continue to to work using our new missions where children will rotate around activites lead by their pupil voice. Take a look at what we have done so far.
Autumn Term
Earth and Space
This term our Context is Earth and Space. We will start by looking at issues that are affecting our planet as well as investigating the beautiful country of Iceland before we blast off into space.
Children will have the opportunity to choose what we will learn about so keep coming back to see what we have been getting up to.
Rainforest Fires
We have learnt about the devastating forest fires which have destroyed parts of the Amazon Rainforest. We have made iMovies to inform people of why the Amazon is important.
Pupil Voice in Blwyddyn 6
In groups we discussed what we would like to learn about in the following area;
Maths
Literacy
Creative
Investigating
We came up with some fantastic ideas. Look through the slideshow to see what we have learnt about.
We wanted to see what type of food astronauts eat! We tried some dehydrated fruits to see the difference between those and what they would eat in space. We ate all our fruits so as a treat we got to have SPACE ICE CREAM!!!!!
We wanted to write a letter to an astronaut but to make this a more worthwhile opportunity we wanted to go into the 21st Century and we decided to tweet Tim Peake to ask him about his experiences in space.
We wanted to paint a space themed picture based around the planets and rockets. We had the choice of different materials to use including paint, pastels, sugar paper, glitter, crepe paper among other items. Look at our wonderful creations.
We wanted to learn about gravity on other planets. We weighed our selves in kg and multiplied that by 4 to discover out weight in Newtons. We used that to find out our weight on the planets in the Solar System.
