Autumn Term 2018

This year we will be introducing our new set of contexts as part of the new Welsh Curriculum.

For the Autumn Term we will be looking at 'World at War' where we will learn about major conflicts throughout history focusing on World War I and World War II. We will be studying the books 'War Horse' and 'Goodnight Mr Tom' to gain a perspective of what life was like in such a torrid time.

All other parts of the curriculum will be linked to our context which, we hope, will help the children understand it better as well as make it more enjoyable.

Literacy

We will be focusing on 'War Horse' and 'Goodnight Mr Tom' and building writing activities around these texts. Children will continue to read a number of texts through Guided Group Reading as well as taking books home every week as part of the homework, please encourage your child to read.

Maths

We will be putting a large emphasis on developing Big Maths over the next term where children will be working on their C.L.I.C challenges on a daily basis. We will also be looking to push children's understanding of their times tables so they are confident of all tables before they head to high school.

PE

PE will be on a Friday afternoon and when possible will take place outside so can all please remember trainers and suitable clothing as weather turns colder. After half term indoor PE will take place on a Wednesday morning where children will need shorts and t-shirt/jumper.

We went on a trip to Cardiff Castle, we learnt about what life was like during the blitz. As it's almost Christmas we also had a go at making some decorations using pine cones as decorations were banned!
We made Anderson Shelters using recycled materials. We planned, created and evaluated our work as we went.
