Why is Cardiff the capital city of Wales?

What other places are near us?

How long does it take to travel around the world?

What different animals live around the world?

Can we learn some different languages?

Can we try some foods from other countries?

English

We started with ‘Kind’ for our well-being topic and will be looking at lots of other wonderful stories including our topic-based one called The Fantastic Flying Journey by Gerald Durrell.

Reading

As always, we value reading very highly and especially now after lock-down, the more varied books you read, the better your vocabulary will be. This will help enormously in every subject.

Here are a few helpful words
something we all need,
to get the best from everything…

READ! READ READ!

You can access Giglets if you want to read the books we have during GGR.

Writing

Our focus in Yr 4 remains to study a variety of texts and to write in a range of genre. This will include fictional letters and stories, poems and non- fictional reports, accounts and information leaflets or brochures. We will edit our work and mark with a friend-that's helpful!

Maths

We shall remind ourselves about:

The 4 Rules (adding & subtracting using money/ dividing using the bus stop method & multiplication)

Co ordinates-using a map

Measuring-the school, the playground and the distance between our school and local amenities.

2D & 3D shape plus looking at symmetry

Perimeter, area & volume

We shall be doing lots of reasoning activities to make us think and to try out new methods.

It will help us if we know our times tables. It will make us quicker and help us to understand reasoning questions better.

Try to learn a few each night. This term try to concentrate on the 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x,and 10x tables. These games will help:

  • Find out what material is best on certain surfaces. Consider strength, texture, friction and the look of the surface.

Look at different land surfaces such as desert in Africa, rainforest in the Amazon, ice in Arctic & Antartica.

Animals and their young, habitats and endangered species.

Elephants/rhino in Africa, Koalas in Australia, polar bears in Arctic.
