Our Trip to Ice Arena Wales!

Ice skating Year 5 Trip

May The Force Be With You

This term we will be looking at the context 'May the Force be with you.'  The children completed missions to learn a little about the topic and begin to make choices about what they may like to learn about. They decided they wanted to learn all about forces of nature including Tsunamis and Earthquakes and everything in between! The children came up with a series of questions that we could find out the answers to throughout the term these included:

  • How is a Tsunami formed?
  • What is the biggest Tsunami wave ever to be recorded?
  • How does a volcano appear?
  • What is the earth made from?
  • What are the different forces, and how do they help us?
  • Where does rain come from?
  • Why doesn't the ocean overflow?
  • What is the most deadly and dangerous natural disaster?

Keep an eye out on our class page and twitter page to see how we are going to learn about all of these different things.. and more!

To Infinity and Beyond!

This term we will be looking at the context 'To Infinity and beyond'. The children completed missions to learn a little about the topic and begin to make choices about what they may like to learn about. They decided they wanted to learn:

  • What is a black hole?
  • Design their own astronaut meal
  • Write a space story/comic strip
  • How to look after the earth
  • Go star gazing
  • How to moon walk
  • What does it take to become an astronaut?

Keep an eye out on our class page and twitter page to see how we are going to learn about all of these different things.. and more!

Our First Mission

Our Heritage

This term Year 5 will be learning about their heritage.
during the first few weeks of term we have completed an immersion day where the children got to spend a day in the past, experiencing what life was like for children during the Victorian Era. This has sparked plenty of ideas to help them decide what the are most interested in learning about this term.

Their main ideas for the term are:

  • What sort of jobs did people have in Cardiff in the past?
  • What was school like for children?
  • What kind of medicine did people get given when they were unwell?
  • How did diseases spread and what were they?
  • Who were the royal family before Queen Elizabeth became queen?

Fruit / Ffrwyth

Every morning, the children may buy a healthy snack for 30p. The Year 6 children wash and sell the fruit and count our earnings. We use any profit to buy some special extras for the children in their lessons.

Water Bottles/ Poteli Dwr

We are trying to reduce the number of bottles we throw away so are

encouraging the children to bring a water bottle to school or buy a Greenway one for £1.50, available from the school office. They may fill it at the fresh water fountain. They can keep this in class and re hydrate throughout the day.

PE Ymarfer Corff

Friday– indoor/outdoors

We have Upbeat Dance for the first six weeks of the term so can children please wear joggers/leggings and t-shirt. Following this PE will be outdoors so can children please wear warmer clothes with the Winter coming. As the session is towards the end of the day, they can wear their kit home rather than changing back into their uniform.

‘Astronaut Training’

'Astronaut Training' will involve a mixture of both fun fitness skills and teamwork skills. We will do this every afternoon, helping us keep fit and become healthy, confident individuals!

Homework/ Gwaith Cartref
