Autumn Term 2018

This year we will be introducing our new set of contexts as part of the new Welsh Curriculum.

For the Autumn term we will be looking at 'Globe Trotting'. This will take us around the world, finding out about the continents:

We will be travelling by hot air balloon as part of our book study, The Fantastic Flying Journey by Gerald Durrell. We will be starting in  Europe and dropping into:

Africa; Asia; Australia; North America; South America; Antarctic & Antarctica.

All other parts of the curriculum will be linked to our context which, we hope, will help the children understand it better as well as make it more enjoyable

Literacy

We will be reading some wonderful books in year 3. We have tried to link some books to our topic such as,  Poems Around the World, Why Frog and Snake Can't Be Friends, Greenpeace, At the bottom of the Ocean, Forests and Handa's Surprise.

As well as reading as a class, the children have their own reading books and will bring a book home each week. Please encourage your child to read at home whenever they can READING IS THE KEY TO SUCCESS and will help them in all the other subjects, including maths.

Maths

The children will continue to do Big Maths, CLIC, every day and use a variety of resources to help them with their learning, such as Abacus, Kangaroo Maths and N.Rich. We shall be doing the 'Tables Challenge' where the children work their way through the Times Tables, learning them off-by-heart. This will help them as they approach their Reasoning activities.
