Spring Term

Spring 1- Magic, Music and Make Believe

This vibrant, sensory-rich theme fosters early communication and imaginative exploration through delightfully twisted takes on classic tales by Steve Smallman. Stories such as Rapunzel Wash Your Hair, Stinky Jack and the Beanstalk, Snow White and the Very Angry Dwarf, Eat Your Greens Goldilocks, and Give Us a Smile Cinderella bring humour and surprise to familiar narratives. Pupils will dive into sensory storytelling through engaging activities featuring repetitive rhymes, interactive play, and simple props. Using objects, tactile experiences, music, movement, and cause-and-effect resources, learners will immerse themselves in each tale. This structured, multi-sensory approach is designed to develop attention, anticipation, emotional connection, and expressive communication.

Spring 2- Life in the wild

This topic invites children to connect with the natural world just beyond their classroom—whether it’s the school garden, a nearby park, or the view from a window. Through hands-on, multisensory activities, learners will develop curiosity, confidence, and communication skills while exploring seasonal changes, local wildlife, and natural materials. The theme encourages curiosity about living things, supports early play and communication skills, and helps pupils make connections to real-world environments they may visit or recognise.

Look how much fun we had on our first school trip to the Serennu Centre in Newport!
