Welcome to Year 5! Croeso i Flwyddyn 5

There are 24 wonderful children in our class.

We are a handsome bunch-even those of us who are hiding!

Tymor Yr Haf/Summer Term
2014

We shall be studying a mini topic until half term called
'Smarter Journeys'.
We shall be looking at our local area:
  • Routes to school and home.
  • Local amenities.
  • Shops in the area.
  • How to improve our safety on the way to school and at the school gates.

  • We shall be incorporating the Literacy and Numeracy framework into our lessons.
Reading is something our class still value very highly as we know how important it is in everything- and, ofcourse we love it! We've added lots of new books to our bookcorner and a set of atlas. We have really enjoyed finding places around the world and finding out about them. Mrs Anderson is encouraging us to read newspapers and articles during our reading time. There is also lots of choice of fictional books in our bookcorner where we like to chill.
We will be reading Diary of a Wimpy Kid by Jeff Kinney, as a class.

Following our poetry focus before Easter, we will be moving onto letter writing. Our first set of letters will be going over to Spain to our link school in Ferrol. Others will include the Sustrans leaders and our mums and dads. We are also looking at our fruit tuck shop and ways to improve it so we shall be interviewing the pupils in Key stage 2.

We will be practising speaking and writing in Welsh and this term we are focussing on talking and reading.
Important phrases for us to use are: Wyt ti'n barod? ...gwrando? ...mynd?...gweithio?... deall?
Are you ready?...listening? ...going? ...working? ...understanding?

We have new Welsh books so will be looking at them in some detail.
