Tymor Y Gwanwyn/Spring Term
2015

This term we shall be learning all about
ourselves, in our topic
'Healthy Life, Healthy Me!'
     We shall be studying:
  • Our skeleton-Importance and how we move.
  • Body organs-location and function.
  • Healthy lifestyle-Eat a balanced diet and exercising.
  • Digestion-teeth & organs.
  • Making the right choices-Effects of smoking, drugs and alcohol on humans. Make the right choices!
  • Our locality and what it has to offer-amenities.
We shall be incorporating the Literacy and Numeracy framework into our lessons.

We have all been First Aid trained. We can now help the teachers on the playground or if someone has had an accident in the neighbourhood.

Reading is something our class value very highly as we know how important it is in everything- and, of course we love it! We've added lots of new books to our book corner and have bought a HUGE new collection of fiction and non-fiction books for the school library. Mrs Anderson is encouraging us to read newspapers and articles during our reading time. There is also lots of choice of fictional books in both Welsh and English in our book corner where we like to chill.
We recently visited Rumney Library to choose our new book for this half term.
Having read Spy Dogs by Andy Cope last term (which, by the way, was absolutely brilliant!!) we are excited about choosing a David Walliams book to read in class each day this term.
Writing will, again, be our focus this term. We will be trying out all sorts of writing and share them with our friends and teachers. We will use VCOP to improve our writing-Vivid Vocabulary,Cool Connectives, Outstanding Openers and Perfect Punctuation. Our work is improving each time we write and we can't wait to try out some other genre-Don't forget to read our school brochure which we co-wrote with Year 6 before Christmas. We know you will enjoy it!

Our fruit Tuck Shop will continue this term and the free fruit kebabs every Friday are going down a storm. We have used the profit to buy gel pens, special paper, glue and other stationery for our writing areas. Please support us!

Our Welsh has really picked-up this term-Bendigedig!  will be practising talking and reading in Welsh-A group of us will be encouraging everyone to speak Welsh in and around the school.
Important phrases for us to use are: Ga i ... am ginio os gwelwch yn dda?
Oes gennyt ti ...? Oes/Nag oes
                                                              Mae ...yn gwisgo/yn hoffi/chwarae

Our class target this half term is to concentrate on our own work until it is finished

Fruit pancakes in Eastern High School DT Dept-Weds 4th

We cooked pancakes in the kitchens with Mrs Anderson and Mr Tremblen. Mrs Davies is the cookery teacher in EHS-she has very strict rules because we needed to be safe. It was such fun wearing a special apron and having our own cooker each! She helped us to make delicious pancakes. We added fruit and enjoyed them before writing up the recipe.
Parents Evening-Tues 10th. Please send back the return slip as soon as possible to ensure your preferred time.
Thank you to all the parents for coming and having a chat with me about your children's progress. The children are very proud of the work they have done and it was lovely for them to share it with you. As discussed, we have started the 'Daily Phonics Programme' and the children are keen to learn their few words each night. Already, we have seen an improvement in spelling but, please remind the children that they must return their book every day, Monday to Thursday, in order to maximise their learning. Your continued support is vital to your child's progress,
